Project Overview

Clarks Construction was appointed by Thorpedene Primary School to deliver a complete internal and external refurbishment. The works involved demolition, structural alterations, remodelling of internal spaces, mechanical and electrical installations, and extensive landscaping improvements. The project aimed to enhance the school’s facilities, accessibility, and energy efficiency, providing a modern and inspiring learning environment for students and staff. All works were fully self-delivered by Clarks Construction.

Project Scope

The comprehensive refurbishment and remodelling at Thorpedene Primary School included the following key works:

  • Demolition and soft strip of existing fixtures, fittings, and partitions.
  • Excavation, infill, and reinstatement associated with hard and soft landscaping.
  • Infill of existing window openings and installation of new lintels.
  • Installation of wind post steel members, new partition walls, and acoustic insulation works.
  • Formation of new rooms and replacement of suspended ceilings with adapted grids.
  • Installation of fire-rated reception screen, internal/external doors, and PCC door canopy.
  • Flooring works including screed, liquid DPM, latex levelling, carpet tiles, and non-slip vinyl.
  • Installation of hygienic wall cladding, IPS panels, sanitaryware, and DOC M pack to Accessible WC.
  • Decoration to walls, ceilings, and woodwork throughout.
  • Joinery works including new skirting, architraves, and finger guards.
  • Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations including power, lighting, ventilation, access control, and fire/intruder alarm systems.
  • External works including new fencing, gates, trampolines, exercise equipment, benches, planting beds, and access ramps for level entry.

Live school environment: Strict segregation, safeguarding protocols, and coordination with school management ensured safety and minimal disruption.

Tight programme constraints: Effective planning and phased delivery allowed completion within the required timeframe.
